Middle housing is a range of housing types, from duplexes to sixplexes, townhomes, courtyard apartments and cottage housing, intended to be compatible with single-family neighborhoods.

I think one of the biggest issues with a lot of middle housing is that most of it is built to rent not built to sell. It's an investment for someone else. Because you live in the same building as 2-3 other families, it does limit your improvement options to improve resale value.
